Kelly Lynn Booth died Saturday, Mar 6, 1999 at the age of 41. Funeral services under the direction of Bishop Clyde Rainey were held in the Afton 2nd Ward Church on Mar 9,1999. Kelly was laid to rest in the Afton Cemetery.
Kelly was the second son of Calvin and Sharleen Leavitt Booth. He was born in Afton, on Jan. 6, 1958.
Kelly always loved his family and made them the focus of his life.
In his school years, he was very active in church, school organizations and received many awards. In high school he was the department editor of the award-winning 1976 yearbook. He was also the editor-in-chief of the Mountain Star newspaper which was also an award-winning publication. He was nominated by his principal to serve on the ESEA Advisory Council and he was president of the Student Action For Education Committee. As a senior he also served as the LDS Seminary President. He graduated from high school as an honor student and received the Star Valley High School Citizenship award in 1976.
Kelly attended college at Utah State University in Logan. He graduated from Utah State in 1981, receiving a bachelor of science degree in political science. He received the Wallace R. Biggs award for excellence in journalism and the Baugh Leadership Scholarship. He was the campaign manager for Governor Ed Hischler. In 1984 he was name into the Outstanding Young Men in America Society. He continued to serve on many boards and councils and was the founder of the North Lincoln Human Resource Consortium. He was a member of the Wyoming Heritage Foundation. He served on the Afton Town Council for 10 years and was mayor of Afton for two years. He was instrumental in the improvement of the Grover Cemetery and did much of the legal work involved. Kelly originated the Parade of Lights when he was mayor.
Kelly was a perfectionist and demanded the best from himself. He never did anything halfway, whatever he did he did well. He loved people and he loved being involved in community service. He could talk to the poorest man of the most influential man on earth and make them both feel good. His favorite people to talk to were children.
He appreciated and always found the beauty in things. He loved to paint with watercolors and he preserved many artistic projects. He loved to grow things and was an accomplished gardener. He made beautiful floral arrangements with the flowers he grew. He enjoyed photography and often gave his pictures as grifts to family and friends. He loved the outdoors.
Kelly loved music. He had a beautiful singing voice. He was in the high school band and in the past few years he enjoyed playing the keyboard. He was an avid reader and seeker of knowledge. Intelligent is the word that readily and definitely comes to mind when describing Kelly.
Even though his accomplishments and talents are many, when we think of Kelly it will be other things about him that will fill our hearts and our memory. We'll remember his abundant sense of humor. He loved to laugh and was never without a joke to share.
when you were with Kelly you always went away feeling happier. Most of all we will remember him and even though he is no longer with us, he'll still be making us smile.
