Mr. Gilbert served with the Army during World War II and with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. He was employed with Standard Shade Roller Co. and St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as a shop carpenter until his retirement in 1972, due to ill health.
He was a member of the American Legion Post and St. John's Episcopal Church, where he once served as a Sunday school teacher. He was a past member of the Vestry and a past Boy Scout leader.
