Curly was born July 17, 1927 in Ponca, Nebraska to Clarence L. & Mary Frances (Fitzgerald) Adams. He graduated from Ponca High School and joined the United States Navy on June 7, 1945, during WWII, and served until June 25, 1946. He married Virginia 'Jeri' Lang on August 28, 1948. On September 15, 1950, he reenlisted in the Navy and served until April 24, 1952 during the Korean War. He was a C. B. at Bikini Island, Guam.
After his discharge, he owned and operated Curly's Tavern in Pierce, Nebraska. He was the youngest man to obtain a liquor license in the state of Nebraska. He moved to Grand Island in 1964 and worked at US Tobacco as a salesman until his retirement at the age of 58. He moved to Hastings in 2000. He enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and cabinetry.
