EXPIRES AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS
James William Carter, age 76 years and 14 day, died at 11:15 o'clock last night of complication of diseases, at his home on South East street. He had been ill since last June.
Mr. Carter was born near Brownsburg, Feb. 28, 1848. He has been a resident of Boone county for 46 years. He was married June 19, 1870 in Hendricks county to Mary Jordan who survives. The children living are Alwilda Dillon, of Pittsboro; Amanda Acton and Myrtle Dickerson, of Harrison township and Roy Carter of Hendricks county; Carwin Carter, of Indianapolis; F. Della Dossett and Harl Carter of Lebanon; Jesse Sharp of near Whitestown; Chalmer H. Carter, a son died May 11, 1887 at the age of 9 years. Wynonna Carter, a daughter, died in infancy, Dec. 2, 1902.
He also leaves a brother, John Carter of Brownsburg, a sister Mary Ellen Lawler, a resident of this county. Thirty-five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive.
He was a member of the Central Christian church of this city. He united with the Christian church at Fayette when he was seventeen years of age.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Central Christian church at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. John M. Herne. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
