Robert Stanley Alford passed away on Nov. 5, 2008, in Red Bluff. He was 93.

Mr. Alford was better known as Stanley Alford. He was born in Red Bluff on Dec. 3, 1914, to Robert Temple Alford and Mary (Dinkle) Alford. He was a fourth generation Tehama County resident. Stanley had three brothers and a sister, who are all deceased.

Stanley worked with his father and brothers on a cattle ranch prior to serving in the United States Army from Oct. 10, 1941, until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 19, 1947. While stationed in Texas, Stanley married his first wife, Lucille Hale.

After returning home from the Army, Stanley worked with his father on the family ranch known as the Battle Creek Ranch. He purchased the Lowry Ranch around 1947 and worked this ranch for several years. He also worked for and retired from the Tehama County Road Department.

In 1973, after the death of his first wife, Stanley married Dorothy Mae Hale. After retiring, he continued to stay very active on his small ranch in the El Camino area and continued to cut and sell firewood until the age of 80. Stanley was also very active in the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Stanley is survived by his wife Dorothy Alford; nieces Roberta DeGraw of El Camino and Patsy Hellman of Palo Cedro; three stepgrandchildren and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Nov. 12, at the Tehama Cemetery.
