Internationally recognized Metropolitan Opera tenor, Robert David Nagy, lost a lengthy fight against heart disease in his hometown of Lorain, Ohio. A Korean War veteran who saw active combat, he reached the rank of Sergeant. His early work life began at the National Tube Company in Lorain. He also sang at a Hungarian church in his hometown. He gained vocal training at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Following his success as a winner in a singing competion held in Chicago that was national in scale, he grasped the opportunity to audition for the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York City. Again, success came for Mr. Nagy and his powerful voice was heard and loved by audiences at opera houses throughout the world. His career spanned 30 years. After his retirement from the Metropolitan Opera Company in 1987, he once again called Ohio his home.
