He was a member of three National League Pennant-winning teams (1949, 1952 to 1953 Dodgers) and appeared in 5 career total World Series games, with a 2 and 1 record while posting a 2.54 ERA in 28 innings. Among his other notable career highlights include five-time National League All Star selection (1945, 1949 to 1952), The Sporting News Pitcher of the Year honors for the National League in 1951 with 22 wins and league leader in strike outs during the 1945 season with 148.
