"Imogene Banta Alward, 80, of Attica died at her residence Wednesday. She, along with her husband, had formerly owned the Skelgas LP Gas Co in Rockville and Wallace. In 1962 she and her husband purchased the Allen Nursing Home until 1973. In 1972, they built what is now the Woodland Manor Nursing Center at Attica. She was a registered nurse.
She was raised in Covington. She had lived in Rockville for 11 years, moving to Attica in 1964. She was a member of the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church and the Fountain Chapter 204 Order of Eastern Star. She was a 1933 graduate of Covington High School and a 1937 graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing at Danville, Ill.
She was born Sept. 5, 1915, at Judyville, Ind. to Emery and Sinai Deer Banta. She married on Sept. 21, 1937, in Parke County to Leston L. "Bus" Alward. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Linda) Brown on Attica, and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am Friday in Maus Funeral Home of Attica with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice."
