Son of William Stone and Lydia Westcott. He moved with the family from Cranston to Coventry around the begining of his teens. He served in the army of the revolution during the Battle of Rhode Island. He eventually purchased a farm from his brother Westcott that was very near his fathers. He would live the rest of his life on this farm. He was married to Lucy Scott. He served for many years as the head of the Town Council, several times as Justice of the Peace and also represented his town in the State Assembly. For nearly the last 40 years of his life he was Deacon of the Baptist Church at Coventry Center.
