HARVEY M. DERR, 70, DIES AFTER HEART ATTACK
A heart attack, shortly after he finished shoveling snow, caused the death of Harvey M. Derr, 70, of 103 Bellevue Avenue.
Mr. Derr, who was found in his yard at 9:15 a.m. had been ill the last several weeks. Earlier in the morning he had reported that he "felt fine."
For 26-1/2 years, Mr. Derr was associated with his brother, Calvin C., in the operation of the former Derr Brothers Tire Co. at 219 W. Main. Both men retired in October of 1946, with Calvin moving to Lake Ridge, Ohio.
Mr. Derr was born May 31, 1877 in Thurmont, Maryland, the son of John W. and Laura Derr.
He was a resident of Springfield since he was 5 years old.
Mr. Derr was active in Second Lutheran Church affairs and was a member of its choir and Men's Bible Class. He also was treasurer in the Lutheran Laymen's Association of Springfield and Clark County.
Mr. Derr was a member of Clark Lodge, F. & A. M. and the Order of Ben Hur.
Survivors include his widow, Goldie Z., and the brother Mr. Derr.
Mr. Derr was the brother-in-law of Roy H. Clark, president of First National Bank.
The body was taken to the Jackson Lytle Funeral Home for services at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. E. E. Flack, dean of Hamma Divinity School, in charge. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
