Denzel Walton Wood
Denzel Walton Wood, 84, left this mortal life Sunday, September 10, 2000, at his home in the care of those who loved him.
Born February 27, 1916, in Auburn, Star Valley, Wyoming, he was the devoted son of Daniel T. and Susie May Walton Wood. He was the tenth child in a family of 13.
He cherished and loved his brothers and sisters. His parents instilled in him the qualities of honesty, integrity and hard work. He was numbered among the best farmers in Star Valley. He knew the "Law of the Harvest" and was happy and proud to till the soil, and plant and harvest his fields.
On October 5, 1943, he was married for time and eternity to his sweetheart Martha LaRue Merritt, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Denzel served as a counselor in the Auburn Ward bishopric for 5 years. He was a member of the Star Valley Board of Education and a Director on the Star Valley Creamery Board.
In 1961, Denzel made his home in Logan, Utah. He worked at Utah State University in the carpentry shop. He became one of the finest and most skilled carpenters. His quality craftsmanship and beautiful cabinet work found its place in numerous areas on the campus.
He also built many treasured heirlooms, clocks, cedar chests, cabinets and picture frames for his family and friends
He was also known for many acts of kindness and service given by way of his carpentry talents.
For eight years he worked in the German extraction program for the East Cache Stake. This work brought him joy and satisfaction.
Being agile and athletic, he enjoyed participating in sports especially tennis, bowling, skiing, golfing, golfing and more golfing.
Denzel was blessed with five children, Dan Wood, Martha Wood (preceded in death), Marla Webb (Dean), Kristine Golding (Edwin), LaZell Allen (Tony); grandchildren, Shane Wood (Kristina), Leisa Rackham (Brandon), Amanda Wood, Jacob Wood, Chanin Webb (Karen), Lacey Webb, Travis Golding (Leah), Bryan Golding, Karrie Golding, Susie Womack (John), Curtis Allen, Chelsee Allen (preceded in death),Hailee Allen, Courtnee Allen and Lindsey Allen; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Rackham and Mitchell Wood.
Denzel was a loving and devoted husband and father; a trusted friend and adviser. He has left his posterity many examples for a job well done and a life well lived.
We are sure that Denzel would express his love and appreciation to his dear wife, LaRue, for the unselfish love and care she has given to him in his last few years. She has been truly an angel.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 14th, 2000 in the Logan 33rd ward Chapel, 1260 N. 1600 East. Interment graveside services were held the same day in the Auburn Wyoming cemetery.
