Lee Reynolds, 101, of Backus, Minn., died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River.
He was born Dec. 13, 1901, in Bladensburg, Iowa, to Benjamin and Ava (Mathes) Reynolds. He attended grade school in Iowa and southern Minnesota and later moved with his family to Canada. In 1917 at age 16, they moved to Sylvan Lake near Backus. He married Lela Tilbury Aug. 19, 1933, in rural Backus. He farmed and worked as a carpenter, building homes in the Backus and Pine River area for many years. He was an avid hunter and gardener.
He is survived by his wife Lela; one son, Donald (Jean) Reynolds of St. Paul; one daughter, Donna (Tom) Holden of Backus; one foster son, Daniel Mitchell of Backus; one foster daughter, Mitzi (Randy) Hanson of Walker; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five foster grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and four foster great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elmer.
Funeral services were held April 21 at the Church of the Nazarene in Backus, with Pastor Phil Cox officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Backus.
