Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. A veteran of 21 major league seasons, the right-handed pitcher won 237 games with the: Giants, Yankees, Tigers, Athletics, Pirates and Dodgers. He pitched in seven world series with a won-lost mark of 6-4 and a fall classic E.R.A. of 1.83. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. After his playing career ended, Hoyt turned to radio and did the play-by-play of the Cincinnati Reds from 1942 thru 1965. During rain delays, he filled the time by telling listeners of his days as a player and teammate of Babe Ruth. He also did some TV work, including the commentary on the Reds' televised games during the 1972 season.  (bio by: John Perin)
