Archibald W. Davies was born July 25, 1913, in Carle Place, a son of Arthur and Margaret Watson Davies. He graduated from high school on Long Island.

He married Mary Cornelia Westfall on Jan. 16, 1954, at Mount Cisco. She died Nov. 8, 1994.

Mr. Davies and his wife, Mary, were licensed American Kennel Club dog handlers and breeders, working most of their lives at the kennel they owned in Carmel. Mr. Davies began working at age 10 as a dog handler for his father, who managed many of the nation's top-ranked commercial kennels.

The couple moved to Ogdensburg in 1974. They moved to Southbury, Conn., in 1978, to help their sons, Ralph and Arthur, operate a large commercial kennel for 10 years. They returned to Ogdensburg in 1988 to live with their son Arthur and his wife, Paula.

Mr. Davies had a lifelong interest in baseball, which included a contract offer with the New York Yankees in 1932 after he struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in an exhibition. For many years, he managed the semiprofessional baseball team White Plains White Stockings.
