MISHAWAKA - Cecilia M. Metzner, 83, of Mishawaka, passed away
Saturday in Golden Living Center - Fountainview, Mishawaka. Cecilia
was born January 16, 1925 in Mishawaka, the daughter of the late
Fernand and Louise (Michiels) Florent. She was born at home and lived
her entire life in the same home. She was a 1942 graduate of
Mishawaka High School. On October 12, 1946, Cecilia married John F.
Metzner and he preceded her in death in 2001. Cecilia was a
homemaker and later in life worked at Darr & Associates in South Bend. She was a
life-long member of St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Cecilia was a seamstress
and was especially talented in needle work which included counted cross stitch,
knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Embroiderer's Guild. Cecilia and
John enjoyed square dancing. Cecilia's surviving family includes her three children,
David F. (Ann) Metzner of Mishawaka, Dennis J. (Sue) Metzner of Granger and Mary
Lou (Mike) Lackey of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren, John, Angela,
James, Michelle and Brittany Metzner, and Keith and Andrew Streich; and a brother-
in-law, James Metzner. Visitation was Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in
Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where
a Prayer Service was held at 3:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today
(Saturday) at 10:30 am in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 West Seventh Street,
Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview
Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions in Cecilia's memory may be given to St. Bavo
Church.
