He served twice in King George's War, appearing on the muster roll of Capt. Thomas Wells as a sentry on Apr 23, 1746, and as a scout in July 1747, traveling as far as Crown Point.

His first wife was Abigail Smead Nims, married Jan 16,1735. His second wife, married Mar 24,1761, was Abigail Hoyt Clesson Nims, widow of Matthew Clesson.

Children(by first marriage): Ebenezer Nims (Probably Here), Esther Nims, Reuben Nims, Elizabeth Nims, Abner Nims, Mary Nims, John Nims III, Ebenezer Nims, and Elizabeth Nims Taylor.
