Sgt. Samuel Oliver McBryde was wounded at the Battle of Franklin in Collierville, Tennessee on November 4th 1864. He was captured and died of his wounds. His burial location in Tennessee is unknown.

The tombstone "In memory of Sgt. S. O. McBride Co. D, 7 Miss Cav, CSA 1827-1864" was placed in the McBryde family plot to honor his memory and service.
