Grant L. Bean, a labor boss at the new steel mill of the American Iron and Steel Company and residing on Cumberland Street, Avon, opposite the Avon Inn, was suffocated this morning. Just how the accident occurred was not made clear, but he was at his work when he inhaled a lot of the coal gas from the furnaces and keeled over. He was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital in the hope of restoring him with the aid of a pulmotor, but he died on the way to the hospital. Mr. Bean was aged 47 years, 5 months and 16 days. He leaves his wife, Ellen, and seven children, as follows: Raymond and Boyd, of Kansas City; Joseph, Edna, John, Moses and Martha, all at home. [Lebanon Daily News, December 28, 1915, Page 1]
