WILLARD, Marjorie Avery, Professor Emeritus, born October 12, 1921, passed away October 25, 2008. She is survived by her brother, W. Eddie Willard Jr. (Shirley); nieces, Karen Thomas (Al), and Kimberly Kruger (Jack); nephews, Steve Willard, Jeff Willard and Chuck Willard (Pamela); great-nephews, Travis and Daniel Kruger, and Jake Thomas; and numerous first cousins. Marjorie graduated from Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, Md., Class of 1940. She received a B.S. degree from Madison College (JMU), Class of 1944, a Master's degree from George Washington University, and continued her doctoral studies at Columbia University. She was hired by Marymount University while attending Columbia to organize and establish a full athletic program, and was hired as a full Professor. Her achievements were to be in charge of the construction and organization of a complete university athletic program, which included field hockey, basketball, swimming, tennis, fencing, archery and various intramural sports. She retired from Marymount after 30 years of service. Miss Willard was a recipient of the Who's Who in Womens Education. Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bliley's - Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
