ELK RAPIDS — Velma A. Goodman, 100, of Elk Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Velma was born in Rapid City on June 11, 1908, the daughter of Joseph O. and Caroline (LaCroix) Bussa. She married Cecil Goodman on Dec. 18, 1928, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids.
Velma was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and listening to music.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Emily (Dale) Dillon; sons, Allen (Louise) Goodman, Roger (Connie) Goodman; and daughter-in-law Peggy Goodman, 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Goodman in 1971; three sons, Stanley, Larry, and one in infancy.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding, and Deacon Stephen Bussa assisting. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids.
Velma, the original fan of Cecil Goodman's band, went to join him during his encore in heaven. She is dancing with her sons, Larry and Stanley and holding her firstborn in her arms. She is happy to be reunited with her brothers and sisters who have gone before her. Those left behind cheer her on her journey. We will miss her and will cherish the 100 years of memories she leaves behind.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home, Elk Rapids.
