Captain Harry George TROUT was born in Philadelphia 5 Sep 1861, the son of William Weaver TROUT (1833-1904) and Martha Elisa MILLER (1834-1911). Harry worked in his father's hardware store in Philadelphia until winning an appointment in about 1882 to the US Military Academy at West Point. He graduated 1 Jul 1886 (39th in his class of 77), and was appointed 2d Lt, 9th U S Cavalry Rgt; promoted 7 Mar 1893 to 1st Lt, 2nd U. S. Cavalry Rgt.; in May 1893 joined his regiment at Ft. In about 1891, while assigned as a Lieutenant to "E" Troop of the 9th Cavalry, Harry George TROUT married Edith Sanders BURT at Rock Springs Barracks, Rock Springs, Sweetwater, WY. She was born 16 Aug 1867 in Fort Sanders, Albany, Wyoming, the daughter of Capt. Andrew Sheridan BURT who was now in command at Rock Springs Barracks. Presumably, Harry and Edith had known each other from previous military posts. At least one child was born to this union, Elizabeth Dorothy TROUT, born 2 Jun 1892 at Fort Robinson, Dawes, Nebraska.
