Marthasville Record--April 4, 1913
Frederick Hellebusch
On Friday, March 28, 1913, the burial of Mr. Frederick Hellebusch took place. Relatives and friends came from far and near to accompany the body to its last resting place, and to express their sympathy to the bereaved children. Promptly at 8:30 the funeral procession was formed and slowly moved towards St. Ignatius Church, where Rev. Father Paffhausen met and escorted the procession into the church, and then celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the repose of his soul. After blessing the corpse the Reverend Pastor spoke a few words of encouragement and admonishion to the assemblage and then accompanied the body to its grave; where a final prayer was offered for the repose of the soul.
Fredrick Hellebusch was born at Osnobrueck Germany, on February 16, 1839, and when he was but 6 years of age, his parents came to this country and settled at Augusta, MO, where he grew up to manhood there he met and married Miss Wilhelmina Struckhoff. After his marriage he farmed some few years at Augusta; and then moved to Peers and settled down on a farm where he prospered and led a happy and contented life. In the course of time eight children were born to this union of which three viz Robert, August, and Elizabeth died in early childhood the other five viz, Vincent, George, Bernard, Mathilda and Leo; grew up and became highly respected members and citizens of our community.
In the year 1901 on Dec. 24th he had the misfortune to lose his faithful and beloved wife. Then some few years later his oldest son, Vincent died. On March 26, 1913 after an illness of more than a year, in compliance with the will and call of his God and Redeemer, Frederick departed this earthly life, well prepared and strengthened by the last rites of the Catholic Church of which he was a staunch, true and devoted member during the course of his entire life. At all times he found pleasure in living up to the teachings of his faith and by many little acts of his life he showed and proved to the world at large, how firmly he was convinced of the truth of his faith, Notably by the work he did whilst the Church of St. Ignatius was being built many years ago, and especially by the examples of faith and piety he displayed during his last illness when he frequently received with great devotion his Divine Lord in Holy Communion, and one might say with his last breath invoked the mercy of God, for his immortal soul by pronouncing the Sacred name of Jesus.
He leaves to mourn his loss: his sons, George, Bernard and families, his daughter, Mathilda and family and his son Leo, as also one sister, Mrs Wilhelmina Kopmann, of Augusta, MO, besides grandchildren, cousins and a host of friends.
He attained the good old age of 74 years, one month and 10 days.
In spite of the very bad roads and weather a great concourse of relatives and friends gathered about his casket, among which were his daughter, and family and Henry Louis, of St. Louis, as well as many friends from Augusta, Dutzow, Marthasville and New Haven, MO.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
