Obituary:
Milton H. "Pete" Janszen, 82, died Saturday, October 30, 1993 in San Marcos, TX after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Yoakum, TX on July 15, 1911, and spent all of his primary school years in Orange Grove, TX. Pete began college at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, TX in 1929, but the depression interrupted his education. During 1930-1941, he held a variety of jobs from coffee salesman to TX HWY Patrol officer. During early 1942, Pete inlisted in the US Navy, serving with Fleet Air Wing 15 for the remainder of WW II. After the war, Pete returned to the University of Texas at Austin where he received his undergraduate and masters degrees in geology in 1948. He taught geology at SMU in Dallas for 2 years, then worked for Conoco Oil from 1951 to 1966 in various capacities until taking early retirement. Pete worked for the TX Rehabilitation Comm. in Corpus Christi and the Genreal Land Office until retirement in 1978. He was an avid hunter and dedicated Texas Longhorn fan to the end.
Pete is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vivian P. Janszen of San Marcos; brother, Dr. Herbert H. Janszen of Alpine, TX; and son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Donna Janszen of Round Rock, TX.
At Pete's request, he was cremated and there will be no memorial service.
Aside from his giving, kind spirit with everone he came into contact with, perhaps his greatest quality was to look at everything that happened to him, good or bad, as a great adventure.
So long, Dad. We're sure going to miss you.
