Wm. W. W. Hoffman, son of David and Sarah A. Hoffman was born in Bethlehem, Stark Co., OH on June 16 1836. On May 15, 1856 he married Julia Ann Uhl in Dunham, Washington County, OH.

HISTORY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO
Hoffman, William W., volunteer, May 1864, for one hundred days, One Hundred Forty-eighth regiment, company F. sergeant, died August 11 1864. 148TH REGIMENT OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY. ONE HUNDRED DAY'S SERVICE
He went from Barlow as Sergeant in Co. F 148 O.N.G. (Ohio National Guard) Served with the Rgt. till about Aug 1 when he was sent sick from Bermuda Hundred to Hampton Hospital Fort Monroe, where he died Aug 11 1864. Married and left three children.

This Regiment was organized at Marietta, O., May 17 and 18, 1864, to serve one hundred days. It was composed of the Forty-sixth Regiment, Ohio National Guard, from Washington County, and the Twenty-sixth Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Vinton County. On the 23d of May the Regiment left Marietta for the field. After remaining about ten days at Harper's Ferry the Regiment moved to Washington, and on the 9th of June left that city for White House. On the 11th it left White House, arrived at Bermuda Hundred on the 12th, and on the 13th went into General Butler's intrenchments at the front. On the 16th seven companies, under command of the Lieutenant Colonel, left Bermuda Hundred for City Point. The One Hundred and Forty-eighth left City Point on the 20th of August, and arrived at Marietta on the 5th of September, and was mustered out September 14, 1864, on expiration of term of service.
