WATERLOO - Ellen A. Kilian Minshall, age 85, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Highland House in Waterloo. She was born March 22, 1918, in Waterloo, the daughter of Francis and Anna (Daly) Joyce.

She was a graduate of Waterloo High School and attended UW-Madison. She served her country as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Ellen was a secretary at Commonwealth Telephone Co. in Madison, was a secretary at the Nuremburg Trials after World War II, and was the postmaster in Waterloo, for a few years. She and her husband owned and operated the Waterloo Hardware store for many years. She also was a salesperson with Gehrke Reality in Waterloo, and was a clerk at Gimbels in East Towne-Madison.

Ellen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Ellen Ann Joyce married Albert Wilsey in 1941, in Waterloo; he died in 1942. She then married Earl Kilian on July 5, 1952, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on May 15, 1982. She then married Harry Minshall on Nov. 26, 1988, and he preceded her in death in August 1998.

She is survived by a son, Charles (Lori) Kilian of Waterloo; two granddaughters, Bryn and Brady of Waterloo; a niece, Ann Atkinson, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a nephew, Steve (Diane) Wilsey of Oshkosh; and several great- nieces and great-nephews.

She was further preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Waterloo, with the Rev. Tom Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
