Obit:Livingston Enterprise May 2003 BETTY SMITH CHANDLER Betty June Smith Chandler died April 30, 2003 in Bellevue, Washington after a short illness. She was born June 2, 1925 in Livingston to Francis A. and Mildred B. Smith of Pine Creek. Betty attended Pine Creek School, graduated from Park County High School in 1943 and University of Montana in 1947. She taught music in Stanford, Shelby, DeerLodge and Belfry, Montana and in Seattle. She and Donald L. Chandler were married in 1956. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister Audrey. She is survived by her husband Don of 7336 129th NE, Kirkland WA 98033, son Joel (Babette) of Marysville WA, daughter Joan (Kris) Langkow of Clearview WA and three grandchildren.
Betty was a serious professional musician. She played piano, organ, and cello. She gave private piano lessons for years, and was an active member of Eastside Chapter of Washington Music Teachers' Association and served on their Board. She was choir director and organist at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church.
Betty was my first cousin, but I thought of her more as an older sister. She was very supportive and very non-judgmental. She saved all the letters I wrote to her when I was serving in the armed forces. She traveled with our family in England twice and with her family she visited us once when we lived in Hawaii. She loved British history and had a zany sense of humor. I miss her a great deal - she is one of my all-time favorite human beings!
