RICHARD WILLIAMS. LEAVENWORTH, Wash., Nov. 21. Richard Herbert Williams, 77, died at. Leavenworth after a long Illness. Born In Oregon City, Ore.. he moved to Idaho when 16 and later hack to Oregon, settling at The Dalles in 1901. He leaves his widow, four sisters, Including Mrs. Edgar Harris, Echo, Ore.; Mrs. Hazel Creighton and Miss Clara Williams, The Dalles; four brothers, Jay and Frank, The Danes; Lew, Freewater, Ore., and Clyde, Yakima.
———————————
Richard Herbert Williams was the first child of fourteen to be born to William "Henry Williams and Amanda (Abbott) Williams on March 29, 1861 in Oregon City, Oregon. The family moved to Wasco county and homesteaded on Eight Mile Creek between The Dalles and Dufur, Oregon and this is where Richard grew up. At the age of 31 he married Catherine Vogeli on October 22, 1892 in Wasco County, Oregon, she was 20. A little confusion on the spelling of Catherine last name as The Dalles paper and the history of central Oregon spell it Vogel, while the minister spelled it Voglie and now I see Washington death spelled it Boegel. I believe her and her family are living in Jackson County, Oregon in 1880 and the name is spelled Vogeli there, which one is right is anybodys guess.
Richard and Catherine started their married life on a farm in Klickitat County in what was called Pleasant Valley just outside of Goldendale, Washington. Farming must not have suited Richard as he goes back to freighting and they have moved to the Yakima Valley to Toppenish by 1910. When they move to Chelan County, Washington Richard has purchased his own Dray and works for himself. He would be a Drayman hauling for the city of Leavenworth for almost 20 years. Richard dies there November 20, 1938 at the age of 77. The couple had been together 46 years. Catherine passed away six years later right after her 72nd birthday. There are no children born to this union. They are both buried in the Leavenworth North Road Cemetery.
