Lee was born on Calcasieu Parish, LA in 1898 to Calvin and Lucinda (Clark) Ashworth. In 1919 he took as his bride, Ella Nora Baggett. He came out to California with his brother-in-law, Charles Landry, on a freight train in 1922 in search of a better life. His wife, Ella, and little daughter, Eloise, followed later. He remained in California the rest of his life and was a sawyer in various lumber mills throughout Northern California. He and Ella raised a family of seven children. At the time of his death, he and Ella had been married 65 years.
