Elmer W. Augenstein is the son of Edward Benjamin Augenstein, Sr. (1888-1966) and Carrie W. Abbott (1892-1985). He was the first child of three children, his brothers being: Edward Benjamin, Jr. (1916-1969) and Vernon A. (1920-1997).

Obituary, Pittsburgh Press:
Elmer W. Augenstein, 72, founder of E. W. Augenstein Inc., died of cancer Thursday at his home in Baldwin Township. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Dressler Augenstein; two daughters, Lois Smock of Pittsburgh and and Joann Donnelly of Bedminister, N.J.; three sons, Roy W. and Allen C., both of Pittsburgh, and Dale A. of Hollidaysburg, Blair County; a brother, Vernon of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Laughlin`s Inc., 1008 Castle Shannon Blvd., Castle Shannon. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in church. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hill.
