Blue River Township
Joseph L. Binford was a son of Robert and Martha (Hill) Binford. He married the 30th of 12th mo 1874 at Westland meetinghouse in Hancock County, IN, Susannah Jessop. They became the parents of two children before her death in 1877. In 1879 he married secondly Lucinda Catt. They were the parents of seven children: Minnie, Harlan, Homer, Josephine, Mary L, Elmina and an infant who died young.

Joseph L. Binford, aged sixty-two years, died at his home in Blue River township, Hancock county, last Friday evening at 6 o'clock following an illness of several weeks of paralysis. His death had been expected for several days. He was one of the best known farmers and one of the most influential citizens of the township, and was president of the Capital State Bank, of Greenfield. He succeeded his brother, the late John H. Binford, as president of the bank at his death two years ago. Deceased was also a prominent member of the Friends church. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends.
Mr. Binford was a cousin of the late Joseph Binford, of this city, and Mrs. Hulda Binford and Mrs. Anna Pritchard attended the funeral, which occurred at Walnut Ridge church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Elliott, pastor of Western grove church. Interment was made at Walnut Ridge cemetery."
