Composer. He is best known for the themes for the 1960s television series "Batman" and the 1968 film "The Odd Couple", as well as its 1970s TV adaptation. Born in Hastings, Nebraska, he learned to play the trumpet at an early age and was writing arrangements while in high school. He had stints with such bandleaders as Charles Barnet and Horace Heidt, and won fame as an arranger for Woody Herman and Count Basie. During the 1960s and 1970s, Hefti had additional motion picture composing credits with "Sex and the Single Girl" (1964), "Harlow" (1965), "Lord Love a Duck" (1966), "Barefoot in the Park" (1967), "The New Leaf" (1971) and "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" (1972).
