Becoming Celebration of the Unusual Event
Note: (A two-page newspaper article of celebration 100th birthday of Thomas Hardesty attended by about two hundred of his neighbors and friends assembled at 10:00 a.m. at the Hardesty homestead a mile south of Waktomika Cross Roads, to bestow congratulations upon the venerable pioneer, and make becoming a celebration of the occasion. Those who gathered brought with them well-filled baskets the contents of which at the noon hour were spread upon tables in the dining room and under trees at the south front of the house, around which the throng gathered and feasted right royally)...

Mr. Thomas Hardesty's 103rd birthday was celebrated last Monday by several people of the neighborhood. He is getting very feeble and will probably not live to see another occasion like this.

COSHOCTON AGE 10-27-1893
Thomas Hardesty, the eldest citizen of Coshocton County, died last Saturday morning at his home in Washington Township. On Monday last week his friends and relatives gathered in great number at his home and fittingly celebrated his 103rd birthday anniversary. He then had fair prospects of remaining in this life a while longer. On Saturday morning he died in a quiet, natural way, after 103 years and 5 days of a commendable life.

Thomas Hardesty, the Oldest Man in the State Is Dead

At the Remarkable Age of 103 Years He Passes from Earth to Life Eternal

In the death of Thomas Hardesty, which occurred at an early hour last Saturday morning at his late home in Washington Twp., there passed from earthly scenes one whose life was especially remarkable for its logevity.

Mr. Hardesty was born October 16, 1790, on a farm in Maryland, situated but a few miles from Washington City. He came of a family of six children: three of them, a brother Daniel and two sisters, reside in Illinois, where another sister, Harriett, died about three years ago at the age of 105 years.

In the early part of the present century, when Thomas was about 19 years of age, his father removed with his family from Maryland to Ohio, and finally settled in Washington Twp., this county, where the subject continued to reside during the remainder of his life.

He married in 1812 to Fannie Burris, who has been dead for many years. Thirteen children were born to them, of whom but four survive--two sons and two daughters--Jeremiah Hardesty and Mrs. Henry McCoy, who reside near Wichita, Kansas; Elijah Hardesty of near Trinway; and Mrs. Mary Collins, who made her home with her father.
