military, Pennsylvania National Guard, 104th Calvary unit; WWII, graduated from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning GA, commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant; served as an infantry division platoon leader; served in the South Pacific during the war & with the 147th Infantry Regiment, fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima; served 96th Infantry Division, Battle of Okinawa; received two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts for wounds he sustained & received numerous other commendations and battle stars; 30+ years, Army Reserves, 79th Division, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

note, lengthy article was published about his experiences during the Battle of Iwo Jima in the Allentown (PA) Morning Call, April 2005 which commemorated the 60th anniversary of that battle. He was quoted in various articles and books regarding these experiences in the South Pacific Theatre of battle.
