A.L. "Bill" Dunaway, 71, of Brookhaven, died there July 23, 1999, at Southern Care Hospice.
Visitation will be today at Brookhaven Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. and Monday at the funeral home from 8-10:30 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Lincoln County. The Revs. Jimmy Houston and Wiley Reid will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Dunaway was born March 17, 1928, in Pike County. He was the son of Alfred and Nellie Mae Mercier Dunaway.
A retired truck driver, he had worked for Mapp Trucking and the Oddee Smith Company. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter, Zina Shirley; a step-son, Wayne Hall; and three brothers, J.M. Dunaway, Ray Dunaway and Alfred Dunaway Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Mercedes Smith Dunaway of Brookhaven; two daughters, Denny Berch of Crystal Springs and Mimi Stegall of Wesson; four step-sons, Alton Hall of Dallas, Richard Hall of Brookhaven, David Hall of Crystal Springs and Don Hall of Hazlehurst; three brothers, Eugene Dunaway of Little Rock, Ark., Jerry Dunaway of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Frank Dunaway of Metairie, La.; four sisters, Mary King and Janilla King, both of Ruth, Betty Bullock of McComb and Virginia Durmm of Brookhaven; and five grandsons.
