The second of three daughters born to Thomas Wesley Day and Amy Alice Champlin. She was born on Mt. Desert Island in Maine where her father was born. Lora spent her childhood in Oxoboxo, CT near her mother's home.
In 1894, she married Timothy Dalton. The family moved to McKeesport, PA and later to East McKeesport. Dalton was killed in an altercation at the Hotel Victory in East McKeesport, PA in November 1903.
Lora lived with her sister Susan E. Day Merriman and her husband John Merriman in McKeesport and East McKeesport.
The Daltons had five children: Roy (who died as a toddler in 1897), Nathalie, Blanche, Gertrude (who died in infancy in 1903), and Ruth.
Her second marriage occurred on June 7, 1911 to George Hood Owston. George was a nephew of her brother-in-law, John Merriman. They had one child Charles Ellsworth. The family lived both in McKeesport and later in East McKeesport.
Lora worked in the cafeteria at the Westinghouse Airbrake in Wilmerding, PA. Besides herself, her two husbands and her son all worked for WABCO.
She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She is buried between the graves of her two husbands. Her daughters Gertrude and Nathalie and her son Charles Ellsworth are all buried in the same plot.
