Stephen Gray Winters
BORGER - Stephen Gray Winters, 71, died Saturday, April 26, 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Minton / Chatwell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe of Bible Baptist Church, and Richard Kasko with the Church of Christ of Borger, officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Winters was born in Stephenville. He had been a resident of Hutchinson County since 1926. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1942.
He retired in 1987 after 40 years as boilermaker. He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
He was a longtime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6721 in Slaton. He was a member of Boilermakers Union No. 531, and former business manager with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Lodge No. 531. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Winters in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Steven Winters Jr., of Fritch; two stepsons, Ed Stevens of Mesa, Ariz., and Jim Stevens of Grand Prairie; a daughter, Ellen Finet of Amarillo; two brothers, Bill Winters of Fritch, and Willis D. Winters of Odessa; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
