Abel was born on a farm near Circleville, Kansas on August 10, 1868 and departed this life in Holton, Kansas on July 20, 1938, at the age of 69 years, and eleven months, and 10 days. She was the oldest child of Archibald Dick Abel and Cynthia (McComas) Abel. Following the death of her husband in 1932, she came to make her home with her oldest son, at whose home she passed away. On September 17, 1891, she was united in marriage to Algerious G. Bidwell of Circleville, Kansas, moving to Holton a few months later, where she has continuously made her home. One daughter, Irene, preceded her in death on October 10, 1917. She leaves to mourn her passing four sons: James C. and Chester C. of Holton; Marvin M. of Topeka; and Arch L. of Holton. Two sisters, Nannie E. Askren of Manhattan and Jessie Chamberlin of Salt Lake City, Utah, and one brother, Lee Abel of Holton. Also six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Gabel and Porterfield funeral home by M. G. Hamm on Friday afternoon. The Dynamo quartet sang several numbers. The pallbearers were old neighbors of the deceased. Burial was in the Holton cemetery."
