William Samuel Billings was born in Chesterfield, Fulton County, Ohio, in Northern Ohio near the Michigan border on 08 Sept 1847.

His family moved to a farm in Mantua, Iowa in 1851 when William was 3.
His father, Edwin Samuel Billing, died Dec. 10, 1855, he was 38. He was buried in Blakesburg Cemetery, Blakesburg, Iowa. William was 8 years old when his father died. The next year the family is living on a farm, probably the 40 acres that Edwin had purchased from the government a couple of months before he died. They grew 6 acres of spring wheat, 2 of oats, 18 of corn, 1/8 potatoes, sold 10 hogs for $75, sold 5 cattle for $75, made 125 pounds of butter and sold 30 pounds of wool for $16.

William married Mary Geneva Haskins on Jan 3, 1869. They moved with his brother Levi to Des Moines Iowa around 1870. Their only child William E Billings was born in Feb1869. On Oct 2, 1875 his wife Geneva passed away. William Samuel Billings remarried the following year to Malinda Church in June 1876 in Iowa.

Their first child, Charles Ross Billings, was born in March 8, 1877 in Iowa.

Their second son, Harry Billings, was born in North Eastern Missouri near a town called Wyconda, Clark County, on August 31, 1879.

They moved to Dover, KS and bought a 160 acre farm near Dover in Shawnee County, KS in July of 1895.

William probably sold his Dover farm and bought a 160 acre farm south of Willard KS for $3,000 February 1896. In December 1899 William bought another 80 acres adjacent to his first parcel for $1,500 which gave him a total of 240 acres.

His son Charles Ross died June 16, 1903 when he was 26.

William S Billings died November 8, 1910, he was 63. William E. Billings, William's son and Harry's half brother, moved back into the area after William died from living in S. Dakota.
