Peter Christensen was the first of the Diamond Lake Danish Lutheran Church's congregation's folks to come to the Diamond Lake community and was also the oldest of those who were gathered to organize the congregation.
He was born February 10, 1836 in Andrup, Denmark. His mother died when he was 4 years old and later his father remarried. After his confirmation, he learned the masonry trade, and he worked with masons for several years until he went to work for Hans Peter Andersen, his brother-in-law. Later he worked as a baker in Kolding and other cities.
He finally got California fever, and together with several other young folks came to California in 1873. However, he didn't remain long but went back to Denmark in 1878. He worked at various places until 1881 when he decided to return to America, this time to Clinton, Iowa, together with his nephew, Mathias Andersen. They worked on the railroad, at sawmills, also on farms and then went to Elkhorn, Iowa to attend school.
In 1886 they came to Lake Benton. In Lake Benton, they farmed together for a few years then Peter Christensen went back to Denmark. Some years later he returned to America and live with Mathias Andersen until he passed away on February 20, 1904.
Peter shares a grave and gravestone with his sister Ane Marie Christensen Andersen.
