William Cleveland Howell was actually born on 23 June 1889. The date of 1890 on the tombstone is not correct. His wife Florence was embarrased that she was older than her husband so she had the tombstone done with the wrong birth year. Her birth year on her tombstone is also wrong. She made herself younger. William Cleveland Howell was the son of Moses Frederick Howell and Catharine Ader Clawson. William was the oldest of five children and only son. His sisters were Mary Jane, Grace Mae, Mable Florence and Ervilla Ethel. William and his sisters grew up in German Valley (now Long Valley), Morris County, New Jersey. He married Florence Estelle Baldwin (the daughter of James W. Baldwin and Jennie Magee). William worked for the Central railroad for 28 years and died on the job. William and Florence had the following children.
