Youngest daughter of Clyde May Maxey and Asa Gwynn Autry. She married Thomas “Tom” Bowden June 17, 1933. They adopted the youngest son of her sister Louise in 1935 when the son was an infant. Carolyn and Tom owned and operated several businesses in Athens. They owned a home on South Lumpkin St. in Athens and a farm on Hog Mountain Rd. in Oconee County. They provided sanctuary to two other sons of Louise when times were hard. Carolyn and Tom were active in the First Christian Church in Athens and Union Christian Church.
