Alma John Barnes died Feb 10, 1990 in Evanston WY.
Services were held for alma on Tuesday, Feb 13, 1990 at the Schwab Mortuary in Afton. Interment followed in the Auburn Cemetery.
He was born Feb 20, 1923 in Salt Lake City and was raised by his aunt and uncle Walter and Beatrice Reed in Smithfield UT where his uncle worked for the railroad, moving from town to town, from Ogden to Preston, ID.
He graduated from North Cache High School at Richmond, UT and enlisted in the Army Airforce in 1943. He was promoted in 1945 to sergeant in the 462 Bombardment Group of the 769th Bombardment Squadron. He was a decorated World War II veteran, and was stationed throughout the world. After his honorable discharge, he came to Star Valley and married Louise Leavitt, marriage later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base for 23 years as an air craft recovery specialist. He was active in the LDS church.
After his divorce from Louise, his main companion for the last 22 years had been Sandra Lee Gedsaul. He moved back to Star Valley and built his home in Auburn. For the past 19 years he was everybody's handyman and spent many enjoyable hours fishing and camping. He had made the statement to Sandy, "If I had my way I would be propped up against a tree with a fishing pole in hand and remembered that way."
On Feb 25, 1989 he and Sandy sold their house and moved to Evanston, where he could be closer to medical pro visions and family. His health had deteriorated and he needed constant care.
Alma was preceded in death by his parents Ruby and John Barnes and little brother Glenn. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his children, Randy, Pam and Eric, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and his sister Lawana Barnes Leavitt.
