Arie Van Weerdhuizen, age 60, died unexpectedly at his home in Lynden on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008. Known as "The Voice of the Northwest Washington Fair" for over three decades, he will be deeply missed by the Lynden Community.

Born December 9, 1947 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Herman and Trudy (Dompeling) Van Weerdhuizen he immigrated to the U.S. as a young boy and his family settled in the Lynden area where he graduated from Lynden Christian High School. On October 6, 1972 he was married to Mary Lagerwey in Lynden.

Arie served with the National Guard and was actively involved in the community as a businessman, auctioneer and farm equipment salesman. His career interests included employment with Lynden Sheet Metal; self-employment as a cattle hauler; owner and operator of Arie's AA Meats; sales person for North Washington Implement and Brim Tractor; and owner/operator of Arie Van Weerdhuizen & Associates Auctioneering and Announcing.

Arie is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 35 years; daughter, Karla (Clint) Roorda of Lynden and their children Bennett John and Brylee Jo; son, Duane Van Weerdhuizen of Lynden; siblings Jane (Chuck) Zuverink of Michigan, Harriet (Sy) Lautenbach of Sumas, Gerrit (Donna) Van Weerdhuizen of Newport, WA, Femmie (Dale) Rutgers of Lynden, Pete (Sharon) Van Weerdhuizen of Michigan, Herm (Cindy) Van Weerdhuizen of LaCenter, WA and Carl (Gayle) Van Weerdhuizen of Idaho; brothers-in-law, Jim (Carol) Lagerwey and Harvey (Gloria) Lagerwey all of Lynden; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Gary) Anderson of Deming and Adie (Stan) Stuurmans of Lynden; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 11:00 am in the Henry Jansen Building on the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden. Memorial donations are suggested to: Ebenezer Christian School, 9390 Guide Meridian Road, Lynden, WA 98264.
