Services for Christy Lain Sams, 41, of Panhandle will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dough Harvey, pastor, officiating and the Rev. Jim Perkins, pastor of First Baptist Church, assisting.
Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funerral Home. She died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 199 in Amarillo.
She was born in Littlefield and had been a lifelong resident of Panhandle. She was a member of First Christian Church and a member of the Panhandle Booster Club. She worked in the Human Resources Department of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She married Junior Sams on Jan. 18, 1977 in Panhandle. He died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Aaron Sams of Panhandle; a daughter, Allison Sams of Panhandle; her parents, Ford and Winifred Lain of Panhandle, and a sister, Susan James of Canyon.

Car, tractor-trailer wreck kills Panhandle woman
A collision Wednesday afternoon between a tractor-trailer and a car on U.S. Highway 60 claimed the life of a Panhandle woman.
A 1995 Freightliner, driven by Robert Wilhelm of Plains, was on the righthand shoulder of eastbound U.S. 60 in Carson County preparing to make a left turn at mile marker 340 while an eastbound 1995 Oldsmobile, driven by Christy Sams of Panhandle, was in the passing lane, said Trooper Wayne Beighle, Department of Public Safety spokesman.
The truck pulled in front of the Oldsmobile, and the two vehicles collided about 5 p.m., Beighle said.
Sams, 41, an employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital, where she died at 8:09 p.m., Beighle said.
Wilhelm was not injured in the collision, Beighle said.

''I feel like both sides had very valid points,'' Sams said. ''We had to follow the letter of the law, and I think that was hard on us. We believe you have free speech, as long as you use it responsibly, and there was a real fine line there.''
