MS. CAROLINE "CARRIE" AMELIA BLANCHARD,DAUGHTER OF BRADFORD BLANCHARD AND CAROLINE KENDALL BLANCHARD. WAS A CHILD PASSENGER ABOARD THE STEAMER BAYSTATE PART OF THE FALL RIVER MASS. STEAMSHIP LINE. JUST AFTER SUPPER WAS SERVED, ALLEDGEDLY NEAR TO 6PM, A TERRIBLE CRASH WAS HEARD. THIS WAS DUE TO THE IRON CENTER BEAM OF THE SHIP, WEIGHING FROM 12 TO FOURTEEN TONS SNAPPING IN TWO. THUS SLICING THROUGH THREE PARTS OF THE SHIP. THE HURRICANE DECK, THE SALON DECK, AND THE SALON DECKS GENTLEMANS CABIN. AS A RESULT OF THIS AND THE BEAM PUNCTURING SEVERAL OTHER VITAL FUNCTIONS OF THE SHIP, A LARGE STEAM BLAST TORE THROUGH THE FOWARD SALON. JUST WHERE MS. BLANCHARD, DAUGHTER OF BRADFORD BLANCHARD A SHOE DEALER IN BROOKLYN NY, HAD BEEN ADMIRING THE MACHINERY OF THE ENGINE. IN HER FRIGHT SHE INJESTED LARGE AMOUNTS OF STEAM SCALDING HER INSIDES. IT IS ASSUMED SHE DIED INSTANTLY.

MS BLANCHARD IS BURIED IN THE BLANCHARD FAMILY PLOT IN THE BROCKTON UNION CEMETARY. BROCKTON MA.
