Mrs. Jane B. Elwood was born at Kexby, Lincolnshire, England, and died at Mansfield on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1883, aged 38 years, 5 months and 2 days. She was married to Mr. Elwood on March 2, 1869, and came from England to Mansfield on April 30 of the same year. Two years ago last November, she was her husband returned to their native land and spent the winter with their respective family friends, returning to Mansfield in March 1881. Since October, 1882, she has been confined to her room and suffered extremely from internal cancer, but was well supported by divine grace and kindly cared for by her city friends and the close attention of her bereaved husband. Mrs. Elwood was naturally cheerful and social; a lover of children and young people and greatly endeared them to her. She was a woman of great vitality, but disease and death overcame her vigorous body and laid it in the dust to sleep the calm slumbers of the grave until the great Easter morning shall dawn on every tomb. Her funeral service was conducted at her late residence by Revs. Broadwell, of Mansfield, and Friedly and Struggles, of Shreve, and her poor worn remains laid away to rest in Mansfield Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. (Ohio Liberal: 4 April 1883)
