Grayce was the eldest of four children of Newton Howard Moulton, a farmer, and Clara Roena Stowell Moulton. Grayce grew up in East Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut. Neither Gilead (at Hebron) nor East Hartford have a birth record on file for her.
Her mother left the family when she was a teenager.
She worked as a telephone operator before her marriage.
Grayce wed William A. Semple, Jr. They had a son, William Alexander III, in 1915.
She lived first in Hartford as an adult, then in Manhattan, New York Co., New York. She moved to Norwalk in the 1920s. She worked as a prison matron for many years and retired as a parole officer.
Grayce died at home, 33 Elk Street, Norwalk, of a cerebral thrombosis.
She had two grandchildren and two known great-grandchildren as of late 2008.
Thanks so much to Dacanta, who so kindly photographed and uploaded the gravestone. Her kindness and generosity of spirit are much appreciated.
