Alice Helena Phillips was born in the Spring of 1855 the third born child of Nimrod Hiram Phillips and Cambis Ann Duncan.

Alice was married on 5 Jan 1872 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois to Hamilton J. Buffington. Alice and Hamilton would later become the parents of nine children and two daughters from the marriage of Hamilton's first wife.

Alice would follow her husband to Jewell County, Kansas in the late 1870's and later remove to Clay County, Missouri before making the Land Run of 1889 into Oklahoma Territory and settling on their land claim just outside of what later became Goodnight, Logan County, Oklahoma. Alice and Hamilton would remain on this land claim until the Spring of 1903 when Hamilton's health declined and he was sent to live in the Soldiers home in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Alice would auction off the land claim and house goods and buy 243 acres of land in Prowers County, Colorado. Alice would become a Sheep herder and potato farmer well into her 70's the story in my family is that my grandfather was born on her property in Colorado in 1919.

Alice would move in the Spring of 1930 with her daughter May Buffington-Dennis and son in law Charley Dennis to California Alice developed Pneumonia on the trip out to California and died in May 1930 in Sacramento and was buried in the Masonic Cemetery she left a strong family and a lasting legacy behind her.
