SHERMAN GUY AMICK Altoona Mirror Obituary: 2/5/1957

An employee of the city water department for 43 years, died at 6.15 o'clock last evening at his home at Lake Altoona where he was stationed as caretaker. He had been in ill health the past year.

Mr. Amick was born in Bedford county Jan. 17, 1887, a son of Wilson and Mary (Shaffer) Amick.

S. Guy Amick married Stella Mae Hanks of Buffalo Mills, Bedford County, PA. She died October 31, 1964.

He was a member of the Fifty-eighth Street Methodist church, of the Men's Bible class and the Kittanning Trail Volunteer Fire company.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Stella (Hanks) Amick; six children, Mrs. Hazel Hostler and Mrs. Virginia Horner of Altoona, Miss Alma and Mrs. Irma Mowry of Huntingdon, W.Va., Mrs. Margie Osborne of Mt. Airy, Md., and Mrs. Jean Patterson of Altoona; eight grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters, Ira of Orlando, Fla., Marshall of Cumberland, Md., Rush and Mrs. Lillian Yon of Altoona and Miss Grace of Willow Grove. A daughter, Mrs. Vera Toms, died in July, 1953.

Friends may call at the Lafferty funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
Sherman was born in Snake Springs, Bedford County, PA, to Samuel Wilson Amick (b. Dec. 1862 d. Dec. 13, 1912) and Mary Jane(Shaffer)Amick (b.Jul 18, 1860 d. Oct 20, 1932).

Paternal grandparents were William and Sophia(Feight) Amick, Maternal grandparents were Isaiah and Sarah B.(Teeter)Shaffer.

Siblings listed include: Alfred Ross, W.Ray, Ira D. Ethel B., Ealsy Homer, Harry Orval, Marshall F, Mary Lillian, Myrtle Grace, and Rush L.
S. Guy Amick married Stella Mae Hanks of Buffalo Mills, Bedford County, PA.
