One of the founding trustees of Mt. Adnah Cemetery. He had come to Fulton in 1833 from Newport, R.I. to start a general store and became a very successful merchant to whom people often appealed for loans to buy homes or set themselves up for business. Private banking of this type continued until Civil War times when the National Bank law was passed and a short time after that New York State established regulations for setting up state savings banks. It was then that Sands Kenyon applied for permission to open a savings bank in Fulton. His appeal was granted with the charter for the Fulton Savings Bank and Sands N. Kenyon as president, a position he held till his death in 1887.
He was married on November 22, 1832.
